During the Microsoft Ignite event, AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) and Microsoft highlighted how AMD’s advanced range of products, including the upcoming AMD Instinct™ MI300X accelerators, AMD EPYC™ CPUs, and AMD Ryzen™ CPUs with AI engines, are powering new services and capabilities in areas such as cloud, generative AI, Confidential Computing, and Cloud Computing, as well as in creating more compact and intelligent devices.

AMD’s Momentum in Artificial Intelligence

Vamsi Boppana, Senior Vice President of AI at AMD, emphasized AMD’s key role in advancing artificial intelligence in various fields, from the cloud to endpoint devices. Thanks to its collaboration with Microsoft and a growing ecosystem of software and hardware partners, AMD is accelerating innovation in computing, expanding its software capabilities to benefit a wide range of applications.

New AI Capabilities in Azure with AMD Instinct MI300X

Microsoft’s new series of Azure ND MI300x v5 Virtual Machines (VMs), optimized for AI workloads, are equipped with AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators. This makes Azure the first cloud platform to use these new accelerators. These VMs are part of Microsoft’s diverse infrastructure, supporting innovation in AI and offering customers greater efficiency and scalability options.

Advancements in Cloud Computing with AMD EPYC Processors

The 4th generation AMD EPYC processors are already being used for a new generation of VMs in Microsoft, including those for general-purpose and memory-intensive use. These VMs provide up to 20% higher performance for general-purpose and memory-intensive applications, and up to double the CPU performance for compute-intensive applications, compared to the previous generation of VMs with AMD EPYC processors. These new VM series will be available for public preview in the first quarter of 2024.

Azure NGads V620 Series with AMD Technology

At Ignite, AMD also introduced the Azure NGads V620 series of VMs, which are already available. These VMs integrate various AMD technologies, such as AMD Radeon™ PRO V620 GPUs and 3rd generation AMD EPYC CPUs, and are designed for workloads that require more GPU resources per VM. The NGads V620 series is ideal for gaming, VDI, and rendering, offering an optimal experience for multiple types of GPU workloads.

Artificial Intelligence for PC

AMD also highlighted the continued momentum of Ryzen AI, the first dedicated AI accelerator in an x86 processor. With over 50 systems now available with Ryzen 7000 Series processors with integrated Ryzen AI, millions of AMD-powered AI PCs are already available in the market. AMD and Microsoft have jointly enabled Windows Studio Effects on Ryzen AI PCs, and AMD continues to collaborate with software developers to bring generative AI experiences and expanding AI workloads to consumers.
